Xbox One S Disc-Less “All Digital Edition” Slated For May
Last year, industry analysts predicted that the next generation Xbox console – codenamed Scarlett – won’t launch with a disc-less version. Unsurprisingly, the gaming community had a lot to say about the idea in the first place. While details on the next-gen platform are still unclear, Microsoft is intent on moving forward toward a digital age with their current capabilities. According to new reports, Microsoft will soon release a disc-less Xbox One version later this year.
As discovered by Thurrott in 2018, a project covertly nicknamed “Maverick” placed in development a variant of the Xbox One that featured a more affordable, disc-less version. In more recent reports from Windows Central, the group claims their sources have outed the official name and release window as well. Slated for May of this year, the Xbox One S: All Digital Edition will appear begin pre-orders in mid-April.
Aside from its features, or lack thereof in this case, the Xbox One S: All Digital Edition is allegedly their “cheapest” console yet. At this time, Thurrott does not specify a price point. However, it will have a “near-global simultaneous launch” for all Xbox markets. With that said, until Microsoft makes the news official, the newfound information should be considered with reservation.
