Mike Ybarra Says Xbox One Achievements to Receive “Fundamental Changes” (VIDEO)

Xbox One Achievements

Many people enjoy a good rivalry with their friends. Always competing to win a race, get the most kills, or complete a title quicker, going head to head with somebody else can drive one to perform better. Xbox achievements have always been a great way to go about this, but without actually doing it. The program allows players to compare their gamerscore with friends, but some may not play as many titles as others, which would result in a lower score. Of course, this doesn’t accurately portray one’s particular set of skills in gaming, leading players to believe those with a lower score are inferior. This is not always the case. Thankfully, during a recent Windows Central podcast, the hosts spoke with Xbox corporate vice president Mike Ybarra, and he had a few things to say about the Xbox One achievements.

Those are all small things that we can do to the system, and the team looks at them. They’re in our backlog of things that we want to get done, but there’s actually bigger, more bolder changes that we have in mind. Nothing that I can talk about now, but something that fundamentally changes the concept … we are working towards a bigger, more meaningful change about somebody’s gaming accomplishments in history, as a gamer on Xbox.

[W]e can do a lot more to reflect and let people show their gaming history and their status. Whether it’s somebody who only plays multiplayer in Halo 5 at a professional level, maybe they only have 2,000 Gamerscore, you want to be able to celebrate that person. You want people to be in the know. This person doesn’t play a lot of games, but they’re world top ten at Halo 5. All the way to people [with over a million gamerscore]. It’s that range that we really need to look at and celebrate … we’re going to go big in the area of letting people show off and represent their gaming history and the type of gamer that they are, far more than we do with Gamerscore.”

It sounds like a ton of good can come from the changes that are inbound to Xbox One’s achievements. Surely, players from all different backgrounds can appreciate a little bit of change, especially when it looks to benefit everyone. What is better than allowing each individual gamer to express themselves as they see fit? Who wouldn’t love to see detailed information about their gaming history?
