Xbox Reveals New Message Filtering Features Coming Soon (VIDEO)
The Wild West that is Xbox Live is about to get a new sheriff, as Microsoft has announced that a new set of message filtering features will be arriving soon that will allow users to choose exactly what kind of experience they’re looking for when speaking with others through the network.
Announced via a new Xbox Wire blog post, the core of the message filtering will provide four different levels of text filtration: Friendly, Medium, Mature, and Unfiltered. The Friendly option will allow Microsoft to filter out anything the company deems even vaguely offensive, while the Unfiltered option at the other end of the spectrum…well, it filters nothing. Microsoft released a tutorial video showing off how everything works. Check it out below:
“Communication is a core part of Xbox and gaming in general, whether it’s telling someone ‘GG’ or planning your next move with your squad,” said Dave McCarthy, Corporate Vice President of Xbox Operations. “With such a large community of players with varying backgrounds from around the world, this diversity means that everyone has different levels of what language they are comfortable with while gaming.”
While the vast majority of communications are innocuous, some can make people uncomfortable – not all people interpret things in the same way, and even the same person can have different thresholds for what content is acceptable in different scenarios.”
The text filters will initially only be usable in private messages before branching out to other parts of Xbox Live. The new message filtering features are currently available to Xbox insiders and are slated to be released in full later this Fall.
