Xbox Boss Wants Starfield To Be Even More Popular Than Skyrim
Though The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has become something of a meme for being everywhere regardless of the device, there’s no denying the title is an enjoyable experience. Outside of the base game, modders have come up with plenty of content to bring more spice to the vanilla experience adding a plethora of hours to sink into the title. With all the magic and wonder the title can provide for fans, it makes sense that it’s been incredibly popular even after 10 years. Bethesda’s next title, Starfield, will have to work pretty hard to beat the sheer scope and scale of the highly enjoyable title, but that’s exactly what will happen if ‘Xboss’ Phil Spencer has anything to say about it.
While in a recent interview, the Xbox head talked to Axios’ Stephen Totilo about the massive potential of the upcoming sci-fi adventure Starfield. Spencer cited that Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite were the most played titles in their respective franchises due to their availability across a variety of different platforms, not including the fact that they are both incredibly fun. With this in mind, Spencer went into Starfield with the idea to make Starfield “the most-played Todd Howard game ever.”
Spencer to me: “I love the Forza 5 and Halo stats…I love how many people played Psychonauts 2 vs. Psychonauts 1.
“So, when I look at the teams, when Todd and I talk about Starfield, it’s: ‘How do we make sure this is the most-played Todd Howard game ever?'”

Of course, Spencer wasn’t content with just one title becoming more popular than its predecessors. The executive also claimed that he wants to see even more people playing a variety of titles under the Microsoft umbrella than there ever has been before. This included such games from Microsoft’s pending acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which includes franchises like World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and even Candy Crush. This wouldn’t necessarily mean playing on Xbox consoles either, as Microsoft has assured a presence of popular games on other platforms as well.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Microsoft’s endeavors in gaming, but the goal of creating even more popular titles and making them accessible across various platforms could lead to some interesting experiences for players.
