World War Z Aims to Fill the Hole That Left 4 Dead Left Behind

Not one to shy away from its fear of the number 3, Valve’s nonexistent Left 4 Dead 3 game has left fans of the co-op zombie survival series bereft of a place to call home. Thankfully, it appears that Saber Interactive’s World War Z is looking to fill that void in our hearts. Announced back at The Game Awards 2017, the developer’s upcoming zombie co-op game looks to settle itself into the gap that Left 4 Dead left behind.

A video game adaptation of both the novel and the Brad Pitt lead Paramount Pictures film, World War Z looks to introduce some intriguing new zombie AI elements into a tired genre, with the best example of this being the zombies’ ability to pile themselves up to scale over walls and other structures, similar to what is seen in the film. This combines with the stated features fans will be able to expect from the game, which will include class abilities, traps, and natural environmental hazards that players can exploit to their benefit.

According to the developers themselves as reported by VentureBeat, their aim with World War Z is to take inspiration from Left 4 Dead, bringing to gamers a similar vibe while introducing new elements, such as those listed above. It will be interesting to see how well the developer pulls it off, especially since the game has been in the works since 2015.

World War Z launches in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
