Upcoming PUBG Gamescom Update Adds New Item Crates, Skins, and More
Brendan ‘PlayerUnknown’ Greene revealed on the Steam forums today that due to a client crash bug, the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds monthly update is getting pushed out to August 3rd. That said, there is still a small patch scheduled for this week that aims to fix a few bugs, one of which involves characters getting stuck on partially destroyed doors. Greene also revealed that developer Bluehole is releasing a special PUBG Gamescom update on August 3rd, which includes new skins based on the Battle Royale movie and the introduction of a basic ‘crate & key’ system. Lastly, Greene detailed what PUBG players can expect in the August 3rd update in regards to gameplay, which includes the previously teased 1st Person server options, a FOV (field of view) slider for 1st person view, and a new rifle. Patch notes for this week and the bigger August 3rd patch can be seen below, with a breakdown on the PUBG Gamescom update further down:
Early Access – Week 18 – Patch Notes
- Fixed a bug where characters got stuck in doors after partially destroying them
- Fixed a bug causing the door Interaction UI to appear even after doors were completely destroyed
- You can now use consumables while browsing the inventory during a reload
- Fixed a bug where characters could not pick up items while running despite seeing the looting animation
- Fixed a bug where characters would shake in spectator mode while running
On August 3rd, we will be adding the following to the game in our monthly update.
- 1st Person server options are coming to NA and EU SOLO & DUO game-modes
- FOV Slider for the 1st person view will be added to the game
- A new rifle will be added to the game
Bluehole is using their upcoming PUBG Gamescom update to implement more character customization options, as well as test the basic crate and key system that will be fully implemented once the game leaves Steam’s early access. On August 3rd, three new crates will be added to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The first two crates – named the Wanderer Crate and the Survivor Crate – will be free to open, and will include one set of themed clothing, as well as other cosmetic items. The third crate is called the Gamescom Invitational Crate and will make use of the crate & key system mentioned above. Each key will cost $2.50 with proceeds going to a selection of charities, funding for the Gamescom PUBG Invitational event, and a prize pool for the invitational winners. After August 27th, the Gamescom Invitational Crate will be removed from the game, and PUBG will return to its free-to-open loot crate system. Pictures of the clothing sets available in the new Gamescom Invitational Crate can be seen below:
