The Witcher 3 Jumps In Popularity Following Netflix Series Debut

Toss a coin to your Witcher, because our boy Geralt of Rivia’s popularity has massively spiked recently, no doubt thanks to the release of the first season of Netflix’s The Witcher. As reported by PC Gamer, player numbers for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have jumped dramatically in the past few days, with roughly 30,000 folks playing the game on Steam with a peak number count of 50,000, approximately the same numbers as Red Dead Redemption 2.

The numbers themselves come from both Steam Charts and SteamDB, Both sites don’t actually agree on a number, though the important thing to note is that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has enjoyed one of its highest player counts since launch, and if CD Projekt RED happens to be reading this, now might be a good time to send Lauren S. Hissrich and Henry Cavill a fruit basket, maybe something more festive for the Holidays.

On the subject of the Witcher video games, the future of the franchise is looking substantially brighter now that the dispute between original series author Andrzej Sapkowski and CD Projekt RED has been put to bed. In fact, some of the verbiage in the latter group’s official statement suggests that we may be getting a collaboration of some kind in the future, as CDPR President and Joint CEO Adam Kiciński mentions that the agreement marks a “new stage” in their continued relationship. Sure, it’s a bit of a stretch, but the developer would be crazy not to make good use of the popularity spike provided by the new Netflix series. The showrunner has five or six more seasons planned, so why not crank out another couple of games?

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
