The Witcher Game Developer Announces Conflict Resolution With Author Andrzej Sapkowski

It looks like the bad blood between The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski and video game developer CD Projekt RED is finally beginning to clear up. The trouble started when Sapkowski initially gave the rights to The Witcher to the game developer for a flat fee, a mistake he only realized he had made after The Witcher video game series absolutely took off with popularity. To say Sapkowski got pretty salty about the whole thing is an understatement, and he made his grievances known in a list of demands presented to CD Projekt RED late last year. Thankfully, it appears that it’s now all water under the bridge, as CD Projekt RED has announced that the studio has come to an amiable with the author.

CD Projekt RED has revealed that it has solidified its relationship with The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski. In a recent blog post over on the developer’s website, the studio relays that an agreement was signed by “both parties” that would help enable a positive future moving forward. “We’ve always admired Mr. Andrzej Sapkowski’s works — a great inspiration for the team here at CD PROJEKT RED,” says President and Joint CEO Adam Kiciński. “I believe today marks a new stage in our continued relationship,” Kiciński finished.

According to the last parts of the post, the new agreement grants the studio “New rights” while also confirming the company’s title to “The Witcher” intellectual property in video games, graphic novels, board games, and merchandise. Here’s hoping we’ll get to see more The Witcher games from CD Projekt RED now that a positive outcome has been reached.
