Mcdonald’s Gifts a Jug of Szechuan Sauce to Rick and Morty Co-Creator Justin Roiland

Rick and Morty Szechuan Sauce

McDonald’s Szechuan Sauce – the limited edition dipping sauce that was only available for a short time in 1998 as a promotion for Disney’s Mulan – is Rick Sanchez’s primary reason for traveling through the multiverse on Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty.  In a surprise move by McDonald’s, the global fast-food company has whipped up a small back of the infamous sauce, just in time for tonight’s season 3  premiere of Rick and Morty.

In a Tweet made earlier today, Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland revealed that Mcdonald’s sent him a 64oz jug of the Szechuan Sauce, with a McDonald’s employee known only as ‘Chef Mike’ claiming that the sauce came from an alternate dimension where it’s always 1998. Coincidentally, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con Roiland joked that McDonald’s had reached out to him after the elusive Szechuan Sauce was featured during a Rick and Morty episode.  The Tweet can be seen below, along with some pictures of that glorious, glorious Szechuan Sauce.

Despite the photo evidence above, it does not appear that Szechuan Sauce will be made available to the general public.  In the letter Chef Mike sent to Roiland, he mentioned that only a limited quantity of the sauce could be brought back, as keeping the portal open to the 1998 alternate dimension would be too risky, “even for sauce as delicious as this”.  Thankfully, the Chef also added that “a few lucky fans will get to experience the glory” of the sauce, suggesting that there may be some sort of competition or giveaway taking place to gift out the remaining jugs.

“We wish we could have brought more sauce through, but we couldn’t risk keeping a portal like that open. Think about it, if you knew in 1998 that McDonald’s would have All Day Breakfast in 2017, would you want to stay in 1998? Of course not. If we left the portal open, we’d have puka shells, bucket hats, and boy bands as far as the eye could see. It’s too risky, even for a sauce as delicious as this.”

Season 3 of Rick and Morty is premiering tonight on Adult Swim.  In the meantime, hopefully McDonald’s decides to have a change of heart and leaves the portal open to 1998.  Puka shells or not, that Szechaun Sauce is worth it!  So, thoughts on the return of McDonald’s special sauce?  At what lengths would you go to obtain one of the remaining jugs?  Plan on tuning in to Rick and Morty tonight?  Let us know in the comments section below, and as always, stay tuned to DFTG for all the latest gaming and entertainment news!  Don’t forget to follow Don’t Feed the Gamers on Twitter for our 24/7 news feed!
