Super Nintendo World Launch Set For 2021, Super Mario Café Revealed

While the coronavirus pandemic has shuttered much of the world’s amusement parks for now, hope for the industry shows signs of its post-COVID future. Disney is still planning its big Marvel-focused Avengers Campus addition to its theme parks, and gamers have had their attention cast towards the new Super Nintendo World attraction coming to Universal Studios Japan. While Universal’s new feature was delayed from its grand opening this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems that Universal is now confident that the Super Nintendo World launch will occur in 2021.

Nintendo has confirmed the new update from Universal Studios Japan regarding the Super Nintendo World launch. According to Universal, Super Nintendo World will open sometime in Spring 2021, but no further specific date is given. As COVID-19 restrictions currently in effect, some outlets such as Kotaku are theorizing a launch date could happen as soon as April, as that is when Japan is predicted to reverse their tourist restrictions initiated because of the pandemic.Super Nintendo World launch

To help ease the wait for the Super Nintendo World launch, Japanese site Kai-You (via IGN) reports that Universal Studios Japan will be opening the new Super Mario Café next week ahead of the full attraction’s launch. The café, called Schwab’s Pharmacy, will serve Super Mario-themed culinary items like pancake sandwiches shaped like Mario and Luigi’s iconic caps and cream sodas with the Super Bros.’ mustaches on the straws. New images show the café and food items, as well as the new Nintendo shops and park-exclusive items. Much of the new merchandise includes t-shirts and pillows feature the new catchphrase “Whose cap?”, referring to Mario and Luigi’s caps.

The new shops all seem to fit well within the feel of Nintendo, and will surely add to the full experience that park-goers will engage with starting next year. Hopefully, by then it will be safe to run like Mario in the park’s streets, avoiding germs like they’re goombas and koopas.
