Steam Is Now Offering Digital Gift Cards Ahead Of Holiday Season

Steam is now offering Digital Gift Cards

Just in time for the holiday season, digital distribution platform Steam is finally offering digital gift cards. As the name implies, the digital gift card system takes the usefulness of Steam’s physical gift cards and mashes it together with its existing digital gifting system, allowing users to gift Steam Wallet funds to people on their friends list. In order to send the new digital gift cards, Steam users need only log into your steam account, navigate to the digital gift cards page, select the amount they want to send, and then the recipient. As with the existing Steam gifting system, users can then personalize a message before sending it out to their friend. The new gift cards can be used to purchase anything on Steam, including games, software, hardware, microtransaction items, and even that fancy PUBG bandana.

There are, of course, a few caveats when sending out one of Steam’s new digital gift cards. For one, in order to send a digital gift card to someone, they must have been your Steam friend for at least three days. Additionally, users cannot use existing Steam Wallet funds on gift cards; your only options are credit card, Bitcoin, and PayPal. The Steam digital gift cards also only come in preset amounts, so gamers will unfortunately be unable to get creative with their gift card amounts. Digital gift cards are also purchased using localized currency, which means that if a user sends a $100 USD digital gift card to a friend in Spain, the currency will convert to around $84 EUR.
