Star Wars Battlefront II Roadmap Possibly Leaked on Reddit, Including Grievous, Obi-Wan Releases (Rumor)
EA DICE faced some harsh backlash yesterday for the Droideka Fiasco, the latest in a series of PR disasters. Today, a leak may have revealed the next four months of Star Wars Battlefront II content.
A post on Reddit details the upcoming Battlefront II content through December. The post, a French translation, has yet to be confirmed or denied by DICE. It also contains several humorous translation errors (like “Earl Dooku” and “the Bright Side”), but given the game’s slow trickle of content, the scheduling feels spot on. Unsurprisingly, almost all of the new content stems from the Clone Wars.
Let’s go through the post month-by-month.
September — Improved Squad System Arrives
“The new squad system, which will be set up in September in the Galactic Assault, Skirmish and Smash modes, will allow players to reappear near their squad members. The squad system was designed to encourage team play in Star Wars Battlefront II.
The 91th Corps Recognition Mobile and the 10rth Battalion Wolfpack will also land in September. Additional clone soldier appearances join the ranks of the Galactic Republic.”
The team had previously announced the updated squad system back in June, so this comes as no surprise. It should help build stronger teams and increase competitiveness among players.
The two skins mentioned are actually the 91st Mobile Reconnaissance Corps and the 104th “Wolfpack” Battalion. DICE is releasing two Legion skins on Wednesday, so that also adds up.
October — All About General Grievous
“The first of the heroes announced at EA Play, General Grievous, will make his Star Wars Battlefront II debut in October. The general of the droid army will join his confreres on the dark side, with the intention of adding Jedi lightsabers to his collection.”
Waiting two months for General Grievous is disappointing, but it should be worth the wait. He’s one of the coolest characters in the Star Wars universe and should be a blast to battle as and against. However, I find the lack of additional content bizarre. All of the other heroes include additional skins for Clone Troopers. Maybe DICE will decide to add some droid skins later, or perhaps they have another surprise in store for us. (#WhereAreThoseDroidekas.)
November — The month of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Geonosis
“In order to put an end to General Grievous’ plans, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi will join the ranks of the bright side of the Force in November. Obi-Wan will be able to use his heroic powers in our newest Galactic Assault map, Geonosis. This new map, available in November, is known to have been the major theater of the Clone Wars conflict.
The clone soldiers of the 212th Attack Battalion will also disembark in November in the form of soldier appearances of the Galactic Republic. These soldiers are known to have helped Obi-Wan track General Grievous.”
After four Battlefront titles, Obi-Wan Kenobi will finally make his franchise debut. He’s accompanied by Commander Cody and his 212th Attack Battalion. Nothing surprising here.
What remains surprising is that Geonosis marks the first Galactic Assault map added to the game since December 2017. If you’d told me that we’d go eleven months without a major map addition, I’d have said you were crazy. Instead, this epitomizes the abysmal handling of Star Wars Battlefront II.
December — Count Dooku, new large-scale fashion, Anakin Skywalker, and much more
“Earl Dooku, Yoda’s former Padawan who turned to the dark side out of thirst for power, extends his threat to Star Wars Battlefront II.
The Guard of Coruscant: This elite division of clone soldiers, originally destined to maintain peace on Coruscant, the capital planet of the Republic, will also be available in the form of soldier appearances of the Galactic Republic.
In addition, we look forward to introducing you to our new non-linear sandbox mode for Star Wars Battlefront II. In this mode, two teams compete for the possession of control points to destroy the enemy admiral vessels.
And as if that were not enough, you can embody for the first time the hero on the bright side Anakin Skywalker. First under the command of Anakin during the Clone Wars, and nicknamed the “Fist of Vader,” the 501th Legion made his arrival during this period with new appearances of clone soldiers.”
Looks like EA DICE is rolling out one last massive content push before Christmas. A pair of heroes, two clone skins, and a new game mode marks the game’s biggest monthly content drop since… well, ever.
Overall, it’s hard to doubt the level of detail revealed in this update. Community manager Ben Walke will reveal the updated roadmap later this week, which will verify or refute the leak. I’m inclined to believe the source, but we need to treat this as rumor for now. It’s a solid list of content that is probably too spread out and too late to make a difference for most of the game’s players.
