EA Play Live 2022 Event Officially Cancelled

EA Play Live 2022

For many years in the gaming industry, E3 was the big focal point of buzz every year, with every major gaming company gathering under one roof for a week of excitement. However, recent years have seen a shift from the event thanks to the high costs companies spend each year at the event and second the increasing shift towards direct-to-consumer digital announcements. The pandemic only made these factors more prominent and common, such as EA and their EA Play Live events. Sadly, it seems EA Play Live 2022 will not be happening this summer as planned.

EA Play

EA recently spoke with IGN about their plans for EA Play Live 2022. Like Sony, EA has already been one of the biggest players in the industry to leave E3 in favor of hosting its own summer showcase of announcements, EA Play Live. EA had been set to host another EA Play this summer after having hosted a similar event last year. However, EA shared the following statement with IGN confirming the cancellation of this year’s event:

“We love EA Play Live as it’s our way of connecting with our players and sharing what’s new with all of you. However, this year things aren’t lining up to show you everything on one date. We have exciting things happening at our world-class studios and this year we’ll reveal much more about these projects when the time is right for each of them. We look forward to spending time with you throughout the year!”

Many are quite aware of the complications the pandemic has presented for developers working on new games, and how delays have become more normative. Fans were quick to point out at last year’s E3 and substitute digital presentations like EA Play that last year’s announcements were fairly less significant than past years. Many have attributed this to delays in development due to the pandemic, and it very likely is the case here. While this may sadden some gamers, it is good that EA intends to host presentations about their big games when their respective times arrive this year.
