While the practice of popular media properties having tie-in video game releases has somewhat waned in more recent years, the practice does still see releases sporadically these days. The biggest of media franchises like Star Wars and Marvel still see major video game projects, while lesser franchises more often make use of mobile gaming platforms. One of the biggest films this summer that movie-lovers are looking forward to is Space Jam: A New Legacy, which promises a strong return for the Looney Tunes, as well as many other Warner Bros. properties. Now, it has been confirmed that a Space Jam: A New Legacy game will be accompanying the film’s release.

Xbox has unveiled the new Space Jam: A New Legacy game with a gameplay trailer released on their official YouTube channel. The trailer jokingly suggests that Granny from the Looney Tunes developed the game, which is a pixelated retro-style beat-em-up arcade game. The trailer shows Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny and the toon version of LeBron James fighting waves of robotic enemies, including the Goon Squad from the upcoming film. The game will be available first for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on July 1st, with the game being made free-to-play for all Xbox users on July 15th, a day before the new Space Jam film releases in theaters and on HBO Max.

Microsoft also unveiled the special new Space Jam: A New Legacy-themed Xbox Wireless controllers. The three new controllers are each designed after different elements from the new film. One controller is colored blue and orange with the Tune Squad team logo front and center, while another is purple and black featuring the Goon Squad’s logo as seen on their jerseys in the film. Another controller has circuitry patterns modeled after the Server-verse in the movie. These controllers will be available for purchase on Amazon and the Microsoft Store on July 8th. Excitement for the new Space Jam movie is quite high, and with A New Legacy game accompanying it, it really is time to slam and welcome to the jam.
