South Korean Politician Gives an Overwatch Nod and Gets POTG in New Campaign Ad (VIDEO)

Blizzard’s hit team based first-person shooter Overwatch has been a worldwide success since its release early last summer. The game has made an impact across the globe, and its incredible popularity has led a South Korean Politician to use the game’s “Play of the Game” scenario to run a political ad. Check out the ad below:

In the advertisement, Sim Sang-Jung is shown fiercely debating with her opponents. As she counters their arguments and shuts them down, the elimination chimes pop up on the screen, much like when an enemy is taken out in Overwatch. Sang-Jung seems to be a fan of Tracer, as her skills HUD can be seen on the bottom right-hand corner throughout the video.

The video has been featured on Sim Sang-Jung’s official YouTube channel, but there has been no confirmation whether or not the ad was created intentionally by her campaign. A quick browse of the South Korean politician’s channel will reveal that she has quite a few chuckle-worthy ads. She is currently running to take the place of Park Geun-hye, who has been charged with corruption which led to his impeachment and removal from office. The election takes place on Tuesday, May 9th.

This isn’t the first time that Overwatch has been used to make a political statement. Last year the group, Nuisance Committee, which is ran by the creators of the popular party card game, Cards Against Humanity,  used the game’s prevalence to run a campaign remarking on the state of the US election.

Politics and video games are very different types of games, but it is pretty impressive to see a political ad featuring bits from a popular title such as Overwatch in a positive way. What did you think of the South Korean political ad? Do you wish local politics ads were just as fun as Sim Sang-Jung’s seem to be? Let us know in the comments section below.
