Latest Skyrim Special Edition Beta Update Includes a Survival Mode
There are always those who are looking for a challenge or, at least, a better one. As Survival Modes are becoming increasingly popular as the rise in rage-worthy titles (i.e. Dark Souls, Nioh, Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption, etc) gain traction in the video game industry, and Skyrim is no exception. As much as this classic is known for its gravity defying horses and modability, the Skyrim Special Edition has even more to offer. In the latest Creation Club update, an all-new Survival Mode is being thrown into the beta testing realm for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players next month, while PC users can access it now via Steam.
Survival Mode Features for Skyrim Special Edition Beta
- Hunger
- Fatigue
- Cold
- Freezing Water
- Fast Travel
- Health Regeneration
- Leveling Up
- Carry Weight
- Disease
- Afflictions
- Shrines
- Perks & Standing Stones
- Vampires & Werewolves
Unfortunately, as video game worlds go, this is probably as realistic as it gets. Not only does acquiring and consuming sustenance require a more careful eye, fatigue isn’t easily solved with sleeping just anywhere. Unfortunately, the minutiae of everyday life pertains to the one in Skyrim and it’s going to be that much more tedious. Resting outside will not grant a restful night’s sleep and a lack of snoozing means magicka and stamina recovery will be heavily affected.
Out in the cold or swam in freezing waters? Better look for shelter and warmth. Trying to fast-travel to a nearby save point or town? Too bad, so sad – it won’t be possible. Carry weight is significantly reduced, creatures carry diseases, and the list goes on.
For those out there really looking to punish themselves, Bethesda suggests trying this new mode out with Legendary difficulty. For specific details on Survival Mode, check out the official blog here!
