Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Confirms Microtransactions – Here’s What You Can Get

Shadow of War

In October of this year, fans will be returning to Mordor of the Lord of the Rings mythos in Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. WB Games and Monolith Productions have now announced that there will indeed be some in-game purchases to give players an edge for a small fee. Shadow of War microtransactions will give players XP boosts, weapons, and more.

In an official blog post, Monolith announced that the Shadow of War microtransactions system has been simply dubbed, The Market. Within The Market, players will be able to purchase a variety of boosts such as loot chests, war chests, and XP boosts with real life currency. Obviously, an internet connection will be needed to make such purchases.

According to Monolith, The Market is mostly set in place to aid players to get the most out of the game’s Nemesis system. Items such as Loot Chests will give players random weapons and armor, while War Chests will provide players with Orcs to join their armies, as well as items to level up Orcs under the player’s command. In their post, the developers explain that the Shadow of War microtransactions are optional, and that players can earn the same items through normal gameplay:

An important aspect of the Nemesis System now comes in forging, customizing and leading your own army of unique Orc followers against the fortresses of Mordor. There are different ways to do this, including dominating Orcs by exploring the vast open-world and encountering them as part of Orc society, or players can acquire Orcs and other items through the Market (in-game store).”

Every item within The Market can be purchased with in-game currency called Mirian, as well as Gold (which is purchased with real money). Gold can be earned for certain in-game achievements and community challenges. There is nothing within Shadow of War that is specifically locked to Gold only purchases: “No content in the game is gated by Gold. All content can be acquired naturally through normal gameplay.”

The Middle-Earth: Shadow of War microtransactions costs have yet to be announced, but everyone will know for sure when the game releases on October 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. What are your thoughts on The Market? Would you rather earn everything through normal gameplay or spend a few extra bucks to acquire an edge? Let us know in the comments section below.
