One of the biggest reveals to come out of The Game Awards last month was the double-surprise of not only the original two Bayonetta games coming to the Nintendo Switch, but also the confirmation that a third game in the cult-favorite series was in the works for the new Nintendo console as an exclusive. Nintendo has invested heavily in the franchise with Bayonetta 2, and with bringing the series’ titular witch as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. Now, a source is saying that the rumored Bayonetta 3 release date could fall into this year, and possibly as early as this summer.

Reddit user darth_solo has shared information that they were given by a supposedly reliable source, which has since been verified by the r/NintnedoSwitch moderators, regarding the pending Bayonetta 3 release date. The user would not reveal the source, but stated:

I cannot personally reveal my source, but I have it on good authority from a reliable source that Bayonetta 3 will be released this year, maybe this summer. It will not be released later than 2018 barring a disaster.

I have confirmed my sources with the mods, u/FlapSnapple gave me the go ahead for this, so they can vouch for it. I’m sorry but I can’t say much more other than watch out for the Nintendo Direct because Bayonetta 3 will be one of those placeholder games that Nintendo is preparing to release. This direct may be Nintendo’s E3 if what we’ve heard is true.”

The user also said that while they cannot say anything else about their source’s claims, they did hint to look out for the Nintendo Direct scheduled for later this month, as well as the one that will likely release during E3 this year. As of now, Nintendo hasn’t officially responded to these rumors. While rumors like this should be held with some skepticism, it would make sense for Bayonetta 3 to circulate the rumor mill at this time, seeing as it’s one of the placeholder titles for the Switch this year.
