Matt Reeves Leaves New Solo Batman Film Director Talks

After Affleck’s portrayal of Batman was found to be one of the more positively praised elements of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, many fans were pleased with the news that Ben Affleck would be directing the planned solo Batman film that would be a part of the new DC Cinematic Universe. However, we recently learned the news that Ben Affleck decided to not seek the director position for the film, while still promising to remain the actor that would be playing the Caped Crusader. This now left Warner Bros. hard pressed to find a director for the film so that production could begin. The studio just last week began negotiating with Matt Reeves to direct the project, but it now appears that he has left the Batman film director talks with the studio.

A new exclusive report from THR has shared the information from a studio source that confirmed that the studio’s negotiations with Reeves, the director of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes, to direct the project have failed. The source believes that the negotiations could be re-opened at a later time once both parties cool down, but it should be noted that Reeves is currently quite busy with post-production on the newest Planet of the Apes film.

Before pursuing Reeves, Warner Bros. also considered Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez to helm the new Batman film, but it is not yet known whether or not the studio will keep these two as their next-in-line choices for the position. Let’s just hope the studio picks a director that Batman needs AND deserves. What do you guys think? Are you sad to hear Matt Reeves left the Batman film director talks?
