UFC Boss Announces Mortal Kombat-Like “Fight Island” Tournament (VIDEO)

UFC Boss

While gamers are mostly able to continue on in their entertainment medium of choice mostly uninhibited, sports fans have had a much rougher time, given the mass public spectator event nature of major league sports. With the NBA, NHL and MLB postponing their spring seasons, some associations like WWE have managed to continue hosting events for the public the watch from home, rather than in a stadium. One such new digital venture has been disclosed by the UFC boss, who has announced his intent to host a tournament on a “fight island,” but many have pointed out the similarity of this idea to the premise of Mortal Kombat.

UFC boss Dana White recently shared his lofty “fight island” plans with TMZ sports. White’s plan is to turn a private island into a UFC match location where fighters from all over the world will be invited to compete in fights that will be aired on television and the internet. The location of this mysterious island has not been given, as White is still in the middle of negotiations, which he implies to be nearly completed.

White plans to have a minimal staff on the island as well as the fighters, and all of these incoming visitors will be rigorously tested for COVID-19, to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Several commentators on Twitter pointed out that these plans are essentially the same as the plot of the Mortal Kombat games and the 1995 live-action movie. The next big UFC event scheduled is UFC 249 on April 18th, but after that is when the big island events are planned. Hopefully by then, some magic ninjas and cyborgs receive invitation to “get over here.”
