Rage 2 Developer Considering Nintendo Switch Port

Nintendo Switch owners were surprised to hear that DOOM Eternal was announced for the Big N’s portable console during Quakecon 2018. Now, it appears that another highly anticipated title may be following suit. Game developer id Software is reportedly considering a Nintendo Switch port for Rage 2, which it is developing alongside Avalanche Studios.

Revealed in an interview with Variety, id Software studio director Tim Willits mentioned that the developer is considering porting Rage 2 over to the Nintendo Switch, though the fact that there are no level loads may make it difficult:

We’re looking at the tech on that right now, and we’re still evaluating that… We stream everything, and we’re just looking… because everything is open, everything’s available, so there’s no level loads. We are looking at that now, but we don’t know.”

As Willits mentioned in the interview, there are no level loads in the game, which could be a serious issue for the Nintendo Switch’s inferior specs compared to that of current-gen consoles or PCs. That said, DOOM Eternal and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus have both been successfully ported over to the Switch, so there is at least a chance for Rage 2 to make it there as well.

Rage 2 releases in June 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
