The Punisher’s Return Teased in Latest ‘The Defenders’ Trailer Narrated by Stan Lee (VIDEO)
Netflix has released a new trailer for Marvel’s ‘The Defenders’, the long-anticipated superhero mashup that sees Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist joining forces to combat the latest threat to New York City. Released via the official Luke Cage Twitter account, the one minute trailer serves to tie together each character’s journey as both superheroes and human beings with a thought-provoking narration by Stan Lee. If that wasn’t enough to get Marvel fans excited for next month’s arrival of The Defenders, the final few seconds of the trailer tease the Punisher’s return to the small-screen, featuring actor Jon Bernthal as anti-hero Frank Castle in his first appearance since the end of the second season of Daredevil. Taking the trailer a few step further than a simple voiceover, Stan Lee is seen driving through New York City with the trailer making it seem as if he was in the background of several scenes from the Marvel Netflix shows that have come before. The trailer also mixes in some clips from the previously released trailer for The Defenders, weaving together both the past and the future of Marvel’s small-screen presence on Netflix. Stan Lee’s monologue can be viewed below:
They are the greatest stories ever told. Heroes show us we don’t need to be perfect to do what’s right. It’s not about living without fear, but facing injustice. It’s not about being powerful, but finding your calling when you least expect it. They show us it’s okay to be vulnerable no matter how tough you are, because even though they are heroes, they are still human.”
Following Stan Lee’s words, Frank Castle can be seen for a few brief seconds wearing his complete iconic costume. The trailer closes with him saying, “Looks like I got here just in time.” As far as we know, the Punisher will not be making an appearance in The Defenders; his appearance in the trailer is most likely promoting his first solo appearance on Netflix coming this November. The Defenders make their debut on August 18th, starring Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) alongside supporting characters from each of their solo series.
