The Predator Sequel Gets Pushed Back Once Again – Summer 2018 Release

Predator Sequel

1987 saw the release of the first Predator movie featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger. It pitted man against a race of aliens who hunt other species of beings for sport. The movie initially received a bit of a mixed reaction at release with criticism focusing on the thin plot exhibited in the story. Since then, Predator has become something of a cult classic spawning multiple crossovers and sequels. Even today, over 30 years later, a Predator sequel is in the works. The next film in the franchise was originally supposed to release February of 2018 but has since been delayed by FOX until the summer.

The movie will now be emerging in August of 2018 and is being directed by Shane Black , who has previously worked on Iron Man 3 and buddy cop movie, The Nice Guys. The Predator features a very talented cast and will very clearly have an R-rating.  In an interview last year, Black mentioned a bit on his plans for the upcoming film saying:

I think the first one was great, and it was contained, and it was a perfect little gem for what it was. I think there’s an expansion that needs to take place, and also just a love for that era, that movie, and the mythology of the Predator.”

Expanding the Predator universe sounds great but what could this mean for the future? Will fans be treated to more Predator sequels in the years to come, maybe more crossovers with Ridley Scott’s Alien films? The sky is the limit, but the franchise has been going strong since the late 80s, and whatever the future may bring – the series itself has been one hell of a ride.

If you can’t wait for some terrifying alien thrills, check out Prey: an upcoming sci-fi horror game which puts players in the shoes of one Morgan Yu trying to survive an alien threat onboard a space station.
