New Pokemon Go Events Announced for Anniversary Celebration, Begins Next Week

Niantic has announced more Pokemon Go events that begin next week in order to celebrate the very first year since mobile application’s launch. Not only are they commemorating its anniversary over the next few months, but the fact that there have been 750 million global downloads since the game launched is an achievement as well. Now, that’s one popular app! Officially, this first one is being dubbed the Solstice Event because of how close it is to, well, the Summer Solstice (June 20th).

All the in-game fun for Pokemon Go begins June 13th and features Fire and Ice-Type pokemon, experience bonuses for accurate Pokeball throwing skills, as well as discounted Lucky Eggs in the shop. All these fun goodies will run for one week. Anything else Niantic has planned has been kept a mystery for now, but it can’t be a coincidence that it begins on the very same day as official E3. Especially since this year’s conference has been opened to a limited amount of public attendees, Pokemon Go could be used as a new way to meet other Trainers and find awesome Pokemon.

Since an anniversary celebration is quite the big deal, perhaps there will even be rare ones to look forward to? In order to prepare for all this excitement and fun, the studio has temporarily disabled gyms so players will have to hang tight for a bit. Moving forward, they have also announced the very first Pokemon Go Fest which is being held in Chicago, Illinois. The festival will take place at Grant Park on July 22nd, hosting a bunch of “exciting festivities”. Details haven’t revealed as to what they will be, but my guess would be a bunch of almost carnival-like mini-games to earn cool rewards among other things. Tickets for this celebration will be available on June 19th and can be purchased here!

Will you be going to Pokemon Fest in Chicago or participating in the Solstice event? What do you think future Pokemon Go events have in store?
