Pink Darth Vader Mod Arrives In Response to EA’s Statement On Star Wars Battlefront II

Pink Darth Vader

It wasn’t too long ago that the world was living in 2017, a year where EA believed nobody would want to play as a pink Darth Vader – because that’s just silly. The company made a statement concerning microtransactions, explaining that they wanted to do a broader scale, such as boosts, that give players advantages rather than cosmetic options. Turns out, EA was dead wrong and here in 2018 is a mod which allows players to fill the shoes of one pink Darth Vader for themselves.

Originally, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen made the statement concerning these microtransactions by trying to convey to fans that it would break the canon immersion in the game. The game already breaks the canon in multiple ways. For example, the Heroes vs. Villains game mode is atrociously canon breaking, featuring characters across the long history of the Star Wars franchise, characters that weren’t even alive in the same time periods, not film-wise anyway.

The one thing we’re very focused on and [Lucasfilm are] extremely focused on is not violating the canon of Star Wars. Darth Vader in white probably doesn’t make sense, versus in black. Not to mention you probably don’t want Darth Vader in pink. No offense to pink, but I don’t think that’s right in the canon.”

Pink Darth Vader

Of course the cheeky modder behind this glorious pink Darth Vader mod had the right idea. It’s a game; yes, having a sense of canon is nice but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a way to make customization options possible, especially when fans have already discovered they were intended for the game. It gives ammunition for wisecracking fans to come up with all sorts of ideas. The description for the mod on the Nexus page is very brief, in fact it features only a small portion of the quote above, with the addition of a small tag which reads “White Darth Vader COMING SOON” – so be sure to keep an eye out for more Vaders of different hues to find their way into the game.

Sadly, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players can’t utilise the mod as it’s only available on the PC, but it still makes for a good laugh. There are plenty of ways around the customization of Star Wars Battlefront without making breaking the canon of the universe too much. How cool would it be to have a Force Ghost skin for Yoda or seeing different Legions of Stormtroopers? It’s 2018 baby, Viva La Pink Vader!
