Ex-Sony and Microsoft Executive Phil Harrison Favors Nintendo Switch in New Interview
Given the relatively poor sales of the Wii U, the Nintendo Switch certainly had its work cut out for it to bring momentum back to Nintendo and to give the company a better competitive edge against the likes of Sony and Microsoft. So far, the little console that could seems to have accomplished what it set out to do, with consumer demand being high for the Nintendo Switch and the company’s franchises seem to be as much in the popular eye as ever. Now, one figure with much gaming industry experience has weighed in, as Phil Harrison announced his preference for the Nintendo Switch, according to a new interview.
Gamereactor has posted a new interview that the conducted with the former Microsoft and Sony executive, in which they asked Harrison about various aspects of the gaming industry relevant to its present and future. When it came to the current state of the console market and consumer demand, Harrison acknowledged that as far as his personal life choices for purchases lately have favored Nintendo Switch. He has two young sons, eight and six years old respectively, who both love the Switch, for its high quality and fun titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as well as its portability.
Additionally, Harrison also praised the Switch’s greater appeal to the mass market and new audiences, considering its simpler games, game controls and ease of making new content available to audiences. As Harrison states, “We have the tools to make the content easily readily and cheaply available. We have the distribution, we have the platforms, we have the technology to put things online. We have all of the power at our disposal and now we should do something amazing with that power.” The Switch is still relatively early in its life cycle, but the potential for the system does appear to hold much promise for reaching audiences for non-traditional gamers.
