Overwatch Retribution Event Takes Blackwatch To Italy, Details Here (VIDEO)

Overwatch Retribution

We got a big dive into the lore of Overwatch with last year’s Uprising event, which gave players a past look at Tracer’s first mission in King’s Row. This in-game narrative was a sight to behold for fans as it was a rare avenue to flesh out Blizzard’s impressive hero roster outside the usual animated shorts and comic series. Now the second story-based PvE outing, Overwatch Retribution, has been announced as the latest entry in the the game’s Archives event.

Game director Jeff Kaplan revealed the first details for Retribution in the midst of Overwatch League’s latest stage of matches. Taking place roughly one year before Uprising, the hard-edge black ops team of Blackwatch are the stars of the show this time around, showing off the likes of Reaper, Genji, McCree, and Moira, as well as the mission’s new Venice, Italy map called “Rialto”. Check out the reveal trailer below:

In addition to being available through PvE, Rialto is on its way to PvP as well, tasking players with pushing the payload to the end of the finish line while the opposition, uh, opposes. Arriving at the event’s launch on April 10th, the new Venice map will not be available in Quickplay or Competitive modes, at least not at first. In addition to the reveal, Jeff Kaplan recently spoke further of the general idea behind Archives:

Some of you who paid really close attention last year to the loot box, you’ll notice that it used to say ‘Archives’ on that loot box. The idea there is that there are all of these cool past moments in Overwatch history. By going into the archives, we can relive those, and Uprising was just one of those events.”

Re-launching alongside Overwatch Retribution will also be the original Uprising mission, allowing for newcomers to participate if they missed it the first time. Heroes Reinhardt, Torbjorn, Mercy, and Tracer are the characters featured in this adventure as they fight off an unending army of Omnics. Both missions from the Overwatch Archives event are set to last from April 10th until April 30th. Overwatch is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
