Overwatch PTR Update Adds Doomfist Progression, Buffs to Multiple Heroes, and More
Overwatch’s newest champion, Doomfist, is almost here, which means the Blizzard team is working hard to ensure that the punchy Talon leader falls in line with the other heroes, bringing with him as few bugs as possible. In yesterday’s update to Overwatch’s PTR (Public Test Realm), Blizzard added in Doomfist progression; which essentially means that his entire starting kit of cosmetic skins, emotes, victory poses, and more are available to look at over on the PTR. Blizzard celebrated the arrival of the Doomfist progression kit by quoting the newcomer in a Tweet, saying “You’re impressed. That’s natural.”

In related news, Blizzard also released another PTR update today, this time with a focus on scaling back some of Doomfist’s abilities, while at the same time providing some much needed buffs to some of the heroes that have seemingly fallen to the wayside in a meta that currently encourages dive comps. The heroes getting buffed during this PTR update are: McCree, Reaper (he’s quieter now), Reinhardt, and Zarya, with the Russian hero getting an extremely powerful buff to her ultimate ability, Graviton Surge. Check out the full PTR update notes below, keeping in mind that all PTR updates are subject to change before leaving the test realm.
- Doomfist
- Rocket Punch
- Total distance traveled reduced by about 20% (This change has been on the PTR for a little while now)
- Seismic Slam
- Added a new UI indicator to show how much damage it will deal, and how much it dealt. Previously this was only indicated by the default crosshair filling in, but this is only visible when using the default crosshair. The new indicator should always be visible, regardless of any crosshair changes. Also, targeting this ability while in the air is now restricted to locations lower than your current height.
- Rocket Punch
- McCree
- Flashbang
- Now slows targets significantly when they are stunned. This makes them less likely to slide away around a corner or something similar once they are stunned.
- Flashbang
- Reaper
- Shadow Step
- VO and SFX distance dramatically reduced.
- Shadow Step
- Reinhardt
- Hammer
- Swing speed increased by ~10%. On top of the swing speed increase, we’ve gone through and tweaked many timings and other things about the Hammer to make it more responsive. Overall it should feel a lot better to swing and make contact with enemies.
- Charge
- Impacting another charging hero (Doomfist or Reinhardt) no longer deals damage to both characters, but still causes a knockdown on both.
- Hammer
- Zarya
- Graviton Surge
- Now disables all movement abilities of affect targets. This is similar to how Junkrat’s trap affects abilities.
