New Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok Leak Details Combat and Gameplay

Assassin's Creed Ragnarok

Last year, speculation began alleging a new Assassin’s Creed title was in the works, taking players to the ancient Nordic lands of the Vikings. Fans have yet to see any sort of confirmation from developers on the subject, but that hasn’t stopped fans from digging around in search of answers. A new leak appears to further the idea of a Norse setting for the setting amongst other things in what looks to be called Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok.

The latest leak arrives from 4chan (via Reddit) bringing details concerning multiple different facets of the game ranging from emerging RPG elements to mechanics taken from previous titles. The claim suggests that players will take on the persona of Jora, a character who leads a band of four across multiple adventures, with each member supporting multiplayer through the return of drop-in/ drop-out cooperative play.

The leak also gives a few details concerning the setting, with the game said to begin with a prologue before jumping to a time where players follow a teenage Jora. Not much else was revealed on the subject including how the battle between Templars vs Assassins will fit into the story, but the leak does hint that the Assassins will have some sort of connection to Odin. For example, players are said to inhabit a few of the Norse god’s abilities, with the iconic Eagle Vision from previous games becoming “Odin’s Sight” and players utilize control of a raven to see the layout of the land.

Several rumored mechanics were also listed as part of the Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok leak, such as the game taking on even more RPG elements akin to the latest two entries in the franchise Origins and Odyssey. The post indicates players could be able to choose from multiple “classes,” with each bringing minor changes to skill trees and allowing for further personalization as time progresses. Should a player feel the need to switch classes, the leak alleges that trading-up will also be possible. A major push for RPG mechanics means that the idea of level-gating missions and region-locking will be done away with, as reputation instead becomes one of the main guiding factors for players.

Combat is hinted as receiving a major overhaul as well, with new weapon types, a slightly altered elemental system that features rune customization, and a Beserker mode that will reportedly take the place of the adrenaline system of previous games. Stealth is described as something out of the OG Assassin’s Creed’s notebook, allowing players to not only hide in bushes and haybales, but also in crowds and as well as mud or snow, a la Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Players are also said to see the return of Conquest Battles from Assassin’s Creed Origins, allowing players the means to take control of Templar territories either solo, with friends, or even with friendly neighboring settlements.

‘Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok’ still hasn’t been officially announced, but the leak claims the title is set to be unveiled next month with a full release expected for September 29th. This leak indicates the game will be massive, with all manner of traversal options and exploration fans could want across land and sea. As the post also suggests Ragnarok might also be cross-gen, it could give both current-gen and next-gen fans a good chance to get in on the action. If all this ends up being true, the game could shape up to be one of the best Assassin’s Creed titles to date, but as with any leak, it’s worth taking with a grain of salt.
