New ARK Mod Brings Flying Dinos Back to Their Pre-Nerf Glory in ARK: Survival Evolved

New ARK Mod

Ark Survival Evolved is a game of dinosaur taming and survival. Flying dinosaurs for a long time have been able to carry immense weight and fly at reasonable speeds, which made them favored among players that used them for transport and combat. Unfortunately, the latest Ark patch nerfed flying dinosaurs, lowering and and putting the cap on dinosaur speed and carrying capacity. Fans have not received the nerf very well, enough so that one fan has created a new ARK mod called the Classic Flyers, which returns dinosaurs to their former glory.

Pre-patch players were able to build flying dinosaurs to be able to fly at over 200% of the base flying speed, very helpful when dealing with creatures like Argentavis who fly extremely slow. Other creatures that benefited from the boost of speed were Pteranodons: the fastest, ride-able, flying creatures. Being slower renders the Pteranodons almost obsolete. Flying creatures were also used for transport. Players were able to move large amounts of goods long distances in a short time and extremely safe by spending many points into the creatures carrying capacity with weights of over 1500lbs. Sadly the latest patch made it to where that was no longer the case. Speed has been reduced and a cap has been placed on the the carrying capacity of dinosaurs. This has upset fans of the game and some have even begun to take things into their own hands.

New ARK Mod

Steam Workshop user Ertosi has created a new ARK mod which returns the flying dinosaurs to their pre-nerf glory. The Classic Flyers Mod allows players to once again level up flying dinosaurs speed and carrying capacity. The mod does not affect any of the small flying creatures, only the dinosaurs players are able to ride.

This mod brings back the original species’ stats for the following dinos (including tames from before the nerf):

  • Argent
  • Moth
  • Pelas
  • Ptero
  • Quetz
  • Tapejara
  • Wyverns

There are some bugs within the new ARK mod but as far as returning the dinosaurs to where they were at pre-patch, it does what it was created for. Currently playing ARK?
