NeocoreGames’ Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr Delayed Until Late 2017, Here’s Why

NeocoreGames certainly has their work cut out for them. Within the universe of Warhammer comes Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr, which will be delayed until late 2017. It isn’t at all surprising given all the expectation now set up from the new open world trailer released just yesterday. Randomly generated maps and missions is an integral part of the new title. You heard that right, check it out in the trailer below:

In the Caligari sector of Segmentum Tempestus is where the Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr heads, in the new “open world sandbox action RPG” by NeocoreGames. It is set in the 41st millennium, according to their website, where Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr throws agents against “heretics, mutants, treacherous xenos and the daemons of the Chaos Gods.” Apart from the unforgiving nature of the area, warp storms play a major role in Martyr’s mission to cleanse the Caligari sector. When these storms occur, entire systems may be isolated, causing a complete cut-off of resources, as well as contact from Imperium. These systems have to resort to “barbarism” and “corruption” as a means to stay alive.

Seasons will be completely free, giving players more and more content with each new patch. Although the wording seems rather vague, it is likely in an effort to curtail expectations or release dates. In the trailer, the narrator explains seasons, representing them more as patches than anything else.

From time to time, we are going to launch so-called ‘seasons’, which are free content patches, each with a very strong central theme. A season will introduce new enemy types, new conflicts, new investigations that fill out the background of the season. Seasons will run for a certain amount of time, and then they will be resolved, depending on how the Inquisitors of the Caligari conclave decide on certain matters.

It almost seems too good to be true, given how large NeocoreGames wants their new title to be and how much is dependent on random generation so that players, theoretically, never get bored. Hundreds of hours of gameplay is certainly emphasized. Missions will have a different objective every time and players have a very low chance of encountering the same map. The reason being – each one is made up of several different segments. So the game’s system will take each individual segment and piece them together to create a new area for you. For long-time fans of the Warhammer franchise, it may be nice to know that the ARPG maps will represent “very typical Warhammer 40k environment.” That means Gothic void stations, imperial indoor settings, fortress monasteries, research facilities, etc.

Of course, there will be a single-player campaign set in an abandoned monastery, and “specifically tailored missions” as part of the bigger picture, called The Grand Investigations. NeocoreGames has a hefty goal with this new title – offering thousands of planets, hundreds of star systems, and randomly generated missions. It doesn’t stop there either. There will be a brand new AI (artificial intelligence) and controllable vehicles, battles where you can purposely cripple particular body parts of BAMs (big ass mother-lovers), allow you to create your own fortress, and creating and joining clans.

As aforementioned, the game will be delayed until the latter part of 2017. According to an interview with PC Gamer, a Neocore representative responds to inquiries:

You’re right, we had to postpone the release. After the reveal of the game at last year’s Gamescom, we soon realized we won’t be able to build the game we imagined in such a short time. You know how it goes. The ideas of new features kept coming and we wanted them all in the game. One of the biggest advantages of being an independent developer is that we have the freedom to push back the release date and fully realize our goal rather then rush out a half-baked game.”

Well, what do you think gamers and fans? Are your expectation high, or what? What do you think of the randomly generated maps AND missions? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
