In 1995, the titular start of the film series Mortal Kombat made its debut. After the premiere of Annihilation in ’97 and its less than ideal performance in the box office, a planned sequel was placed on the backburner. Franchise fans and curious movie-goers were left on read…until now that is. Arriving in 2021, the Mortal Kombat reboot film will hit theaters with known names in Hollywood production and direction.

It was earlier this month that Steven Marshall and team announced they had just initiated production in Australia. Set for March 5, 2021, Aquaman director James Wan will serve the film as producer, while Simon McQuiod will see the movie as his first Hollywood debut. Greg Russo is in charge of writing the script.

No details have been shared on the story settings or cast. However, it has been mentioned in a recent report that the production crew has been eyeing Joel Edgerton for the role of Kano, the bionic-eyed mercenary. A recent leak discloses information that claims character rosters for the reboot have been fleshed out, but the question remains – who will be assuming their roles?

Were you a fan of the original movies back in 90s and which did you like better – the titular original in 1995 or Annihilation?
