Mortal Kombat 11 Pro Tournament Gets Heated IRL (VIDEO)

As many of us likely know, playing a round of Mortal Kombat is bound to lead to one of the game’s signature Fatality finishing moves, further leaving a stamp of superiority over a player’s foe. However, things jumped up a notch (and possibly several more) during a recent pro tournament for Mortal Kombat 11, where one decidedly exciting victory got a bit too heated for comfort.

Florida’s annual CEO Fighting Game Championships took place this past weekend, playing host to pro-wrestling company AEW as well as esports staples like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Super Smash Bros. Even with all this hubbub, one of the event’s most memorable moments spurred out of the MK11 competition, a match between Brad “Scar” Vaughn and Leif “Buffalo” Boisvert ending with a particularly intense staredown. As seen in the video below, Buffalo celebrated his win by coarsely trash-talking his opponent Scar, an action further escalated by the two flipping each other off.

As fast-paced fighting games like Mortal Kombat 11 often create an air of intensity between kombatants, letting off aggression at the end of a match, or “popping off,” is a somewhat common occurrence in professional tournaments. That being said, Buffalo’s explicative-filled altercation with Scar may have been considerably more intense due to the two players also having beef in real life. Originating on Twitter, the players previously entered into a war of words over who could beat who in a match. CEO’s result certainly earned Buffalo some significant bragging rights in that regard, though perhaps not quite to the extent laid out on the show floor.

While this IRL beef has reached its culmination, Mortal Kombat 11 itself still has some unfinished business in the form of upcoming DLC. A formidable movie-accurate Shang Tsung has already been introduced, with the likes of Nightwolf, Sindel, Spawn, and two mystery fighters still left to be released. NetherRealm recently teased fans about these currently-unconfirmed fighters, possibly hinting at a DLC featuring DC’s Joker.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

What do you think? Do you agree with this outrageous pop-off from Buffalo, or did Scar sort-of bring this beastly reaction on himself?
