Marvel's Avengers Releases Combat Showcase Trailer Featuring Black Widow (VIDEO)

Regardless of whether you’re on board with it or just not feeling the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers game from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, the title’s release date is as inevitable as Thanos himself. The developer has recently begun to release new profiles and trailers for each of the Avengers, the most recent of which showcased Tony Stark’s Iron Man. Now, Crystal Dynamics has released a new Combat Showcase trailer featuring Black Widow.

The developer recently took to Twitter with a 5-minute long clip of Black Widow’s battle versus Taskmaster, which appears towards the tail end of the A-Day gameplay footage released last month. Alongside the footage is a breakdown of the Black Widow character from lead combat designer Vince Napoli. The footage can be seen below, followed by Napoli’s breakdown:

“Black Widow is a really complex and nuanced character; so it only makes sense that her gameplay and mechanics are designed in a way that compliments those aspects of her character. In a manner that is fitting of a trained assassin, Widow’s gameplay loop is all about creating & exploiting enemy vulnerabilities. Whether attacking enemies from behind or putting enemies into stun states that lead to quick take downs, playing Black Widow is about efficiency.

For example, when utilizing her grapple correctly, it’s both a pre-emptive defensive attack designed to counter enemies before they strike, as well as a move to initiate combat at large distances from the ground or in air. As versatile as she is deadly, Widow is just as effective from a distance as she is up-close and personal. “Regardless of how you choose to play Widow —whether you’re focusing on subterfuge or style, gadgets or guns— her combat and gameplay style always feels distinct.”

Marvel’s Avengers releases on May 15, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
