Mars

If you’ve ever felt the need to leave the planet but couldn’t afford to fund your own space program, let alone the costs interstellar colonization, fear not! Coming direct to you from Bohemia Interactive, Take on Mars brings the thrills of space survivalism directly to your home computer!

Bypass the pesky task of funding a space program ranging in costs from millions to billion of dollars and start enjoying the Red Planet today with a survival simulation style interplanetary exploration game. With 2 chapters of campaign and an open sandbox-survival multiplayer, Take on Mars provides a wide array of ways to enjoy Mars exploration.

Explore the rocky terrain and sandy wastes of the Red Planet. Bohemia Interactive’s Take On Mars places you right in the middle of mankind’s most exciting undertaking. Start out in the seat of a rover operator, finish as the first human to have ever set foot on Mars. With a scientific arsenal at your disposal, you will pioneer the exploration, and colonization, of the Red Planet.

The mixed reviews on Steam, for Take on Mars, range from a hard “Nope” to “You gotta try this,” making the game seem to be somewhat of an acquired taste. Seemingly, this game leans more towards “the science, technology and management of a Mars space program” rather than a space survivalist adventure, but still for a simulation game – it seems like this could be pretty cool. Here’s a few comments from player reviews on the game:

If you’re a space buff and want to try your hand at believable missions at a fictional space agency in the vein of NASA / ESA / ROSCOSMOS / etc., this is exactly the game you’ve been looking for. However, if you’re more interested in an extraterrestrial co-op survival experience, you should probably look elsewhere.

If you plan to play alone.. Enjoy the company of your own mind.. The Campaign is fun.. but long, You will be searching for things constantly. And occasionally you will flip a buggy.. or send a wheel off flying far away. Or you might trip on air and smash your helmet into the ground.. good times.. gooooood times..

Honestly, this game looks like it could be either one of those simulation titles that gets annoying real fast, or a game that’s just so bad that it’s good and you literally can’t stop playing because the prospect of bouncing a space rover off your friends helmet is just too enticing not to try. Either way, it seems that if space is your thing, Mars in particular, this might be a game to look into. Oh but wait, there’s more! In case we haven’t sold you on a solid maybe already, check out this ‘infomercial style’ trailer that might even make the late Billy Mayes chuckle.

I’m not going to lie, the curiosity to try this game is pretty strong. The title itself retails $26.99, saving millions of dollars not to mention years of space travel!
