Lilo & Stitch Live Action Remake In The Works By Disney
The Walt Disney Company has quite noticeably benefited from several key decisions regarding live action film projects in the past few years. The company’s acquisition of Marvel and Star Wars have led to billion dollar successes, and the collection of iconic Disney characters have seen a resurgence thanks to the string of live-action remakes of classic animated films. So far we’ve seen animated masterpieces like The Jungle Book and Beauty & The Beast remade in live action, and a new Aladdin remake is currently in production. Now, new reports say that a Lilo and Stitch live action remake is in the works at the Mouse House.
The Hollywood Reporter has shared the news that Disney is preparing to make a Lilo and Stitch live action remake. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, currently working on the live action Aladdin remake, are slated to produce the film, while Mike Van Waes has been recruited to pen the screenplay. Assuming no major changes are made, the film will likely remain faithful to the animated version, which focused on an alien mad scientist’s chaotic experiment escaping to earth, and being adopted by an orphaned Hawaiian girl who lives with her sister.
A director has not been announced nor have any casting decisions been made for the film, but many expect Disney veteran Chris Sanders to return as the voice of Stitch, especially given the animated nature of the character and his unique voice. Newer generations who grew up with Lilo and Stitch are sure to be thrilled by this news, and it is certainly interesting to see Disney acknowledge Lilo and Stitch’s position as a recent classic next to the likes of Aladdin.
Looks like the little blue alien earned his place in the Disney ohana. What do you guys think about the Lilo and Stitch live action remake? Let us know in the comments below!
