Kerbal Space Program 2 Officially Delayed Until 2022

It’s been a year of delays, unfortunately, with some games having to come forward with announcing delays multiple times through 2020. Kerbal Space Program 2 is no exception. Private Division and Squad took to their official forum to “rip the band-aid off” so to speak and announce yet another delay.

It was revealed in 2019 that Kerbal Space Program 2 would be delayed until Fall of 2021. That was already a hard pill to swallow for fans, but the team was relatively transparent with their explanation. The game was being “redesigned from the ground up to meet the demands of modern and next-generation space exploration” and the undertaking was notably immense for the team. It’s with regret and great frustration that it won’t arrive until 2022.

“We knew we were taking on an immense technical and creative challenge when we started this project,” Kerbal Space Program 2’s creative director Nate Simpson explained in a post. “We’ve heard time and again from this community that quality is paramount, and we feel the same way. It’s not enough to deliver a bunch of new features – those features have to be woven together into a stable, polished whole. We’re creating a reliable foundation on which players and modders alike can build for another decade or more. That involves solving problems that have never been solved before, and that takes time.”

“It’s killing us how much of this we have to keep under our hats until the game is released,” Simpson added. “We can’t express how much we’re looking forward to soaking up all your reactions and discoveries on that day.”

Until then, the Kerbal Space Program 2 team will be posting updates along the way, including videos and developer diaries. This year has taken a toll on a majority of the world, and it has had a ripple effect on countless industries across the globe. Best of luck to the team because we can’t wait to see the game when it comes out in 2022!
