Player Creates Custom Infection Mode for Overwatch – Because Zombies Never Die (VIDEO)
Blizzard’s popular FPS Overwatch took the gaming world by storm and one aspect to this title that millions of players world-wide enjoy is the different game modes available. Though there are some exciting things going on currently in the world of Overwatch with the return of Lucioball and the Summer Games Event, some players wanted even more. One such Overwatch fan went so far to create a specific game mode with none other than Zombies – check out the custom Infection Mode in the video below:
This custom mode one player created tasks players with staying alive until a timer runs out. Survivors can attempt to work in groups to take down zombies or go out into the dangerous world alone. Zombies, on the other hand, are asked to “turn” Survivors into new Zombies by killing them of course. If all players have been turned before the timer runs out, Zombies win the game. If even one Survivor makes it to the end of the game, they win. It’s a simple gametype that can get very intense very quickly and consequently be a lot of fun.
Currently the game only supports the use of two characters, Torbjorn for the Survivors side and Reinhardt for the Zombies. Torbjorn can utilize turrets to create barriers, while Reinhardt swings his signature hammer aimlessly destroying all obstacles and enemies in his path. The video indicates that the Zombies also get a speed boost to increase their survivability. This custom infection mode seems to be in the early stages of development based on the lack of character choices, however it has quite a lot of potential.
Overwatch’s special events would be a great place to see such a gametype. While the current Summer event in Overwatch would be a bad fit for the theme of an Infection Mode, others such as the next Halloween event could introduce players to something similar. For PC players looking to try out this fan-made gametype, there can be a request made right here.
