Hangar 13 Would Like To Create Mafia 4, Developing Unannounced Project

Hangar 13

Following remasters of the second and third games in the series released earlier this year, the full original trilogy of the Mafia games will now be made up to date for current-gen consoles and PC. Last year, rumors swirled around that a new Mafia game was in the works alongside the remasters, and now Hangar 13 has provided an update on the situation.

SegmentNext recently released a new interview that they conducted with Hangar 13 about the Mafia series and their upcoming projects. Hangar 13’s focus lately has been finishing up the Mafia: Definitive Edition, which saw some production delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, but is still scheduled for release next month. As for the potential of a Mafia 4, it would seem that the developer has no immediate plans or greenlight from publisher 2K Games for a fourth entry. As they state:

We hope fans enjoy Definitive Edition. If it does well, we may be able to channel our energy towards a new installment. I know our team would be thrilled to make another Mafia game if the opportunity arises.”

Hangar 13 also disclose in the interview that they are working on a separate, unannounced project, which implies it is a game not from the Mafia series. It is not yet known what this franchise might be. The developer went to great lengths to remaster the original Mafia game for the Definitive Edition, including re-recording the original dialogue and orchestral score. Hopefully the release of the Mafia: Definitive Edition is successful enough to warrant interest in a Mafia 4. The series is far too young and beloved to be sleeping with the fishes so soon.
