Halo Infinite Bots Aren’t Actually Teabagging People, Says Dev
The recent testing period for multiplayer in Halo Infinite gave fans a small window into what the game will most likely present at launch later this year. This last go ’round of testing focused on the newly added AI bots as well as online performance. As testing went on, fans began to notice a strange phenomenon where the bots appeared to be “teabagging” players after a kill. That said, it doesn’t seem as though the developers at 343 Industries had intended for this to happen.
A recent report saw a talk with Halo Infinite’s developer who explained that the phenomenon where players saw this happen was simply a bug. 343 Industries also explained that they created the bots as a way for players to warm up to the online multiplayer, learning and experimenting as they saw fit, but they never intended for players to be teabagged by bots running around the map. In fact, there isn’t any specific code within the bot programming that would intentionally taunt the players because their primary function is to provide players with a place to learn from trial and error. “An example of what could look like teabagging is a bug with bot traversal that was in the technical preview build,” said 343.
It caused bots to fail to successfully jump and clamber on the edge of stairs or ramps. A bot’s feet would leave the ground very briefly, then play a landing animation when they failed the jump, and they’d get stuck in an animation loop that could look like crouching rapidly. If that happened to be observed shortly after a kill, or near a player’s body, it can definitely feel like an intentional behaviour. In reality, the bot was just struggling to go up the stairs.”
Halo Infinite is set to release sometime late this year though no official date has been set quite yet. The next Flight testing also has no timeframe quite yet but hopefully fans will learn more on that soon. Do you think having Halo Infinite’s bots teabag players would be a hilarious and welcome addition or is it harmful to players just trying to learn the game?
