GTA 3, Vice City, And San Andreas Remasters Reportedly In Development

GTA San Andreas Remasters

As the newest generation of video game hardware continues to find growth and success this year, the biggest game publishers have been looking to bring games that support these fresh platforms. One such publisher has been Rockstar Games, which announced last year that they would once more be remastering Grand Theft Auto V for a new generation of gaming consoles, this time for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. The classic Grand Theft Auto games from the PlayStation 2 era have found success being ported to other platforms in the past, and now GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas remasters are reportedly in the works for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Kotaku recently reported on information given to them from sources close to Rockstar Games. The three sources all stated that remasters of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas are in developmental stages at Rockstar Games. The trio of remasters are said to utilize the Unreal Engine and have a mix of “new and old graphics,” with some slight changes to the original UI systems. Rockstar will supposedly try to remain true to the original feel of the PlayStation 2 games, but one source felt that the remastered games felt like a modded version of the original versions.

The site’s sources also suggested that Rockstar Dundee is the particular studio working on the GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas remasters, the same developers working on the upcoming GTA V remaster for PS5 and Xbox Series X. These upgraded games were all meant to be released earlier this year, but the pandemic reportedly caused delays in development due to the challenges of working remotely, and that the titles may be announced for release later this year. These remasters are expected to be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X/S, and Switch first, with a PC and Stadia version to arrive at a later date next year. Hopefully, these all get announced soon so fans looking for nostalgia can once again rank up the six-star rating while running from the cops.
