Half-Life 3 Release Date Teased By Valve Co-Founder
Nope, it’s not an premature April Fool’s Joke. It’s not a joke at all! Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve Corporation and online video game retailer, Steam, ousts their plans! While any information related to development and content is strictly under wraps, Newell teases the release window for the sequel title Half-Life 3.
Thanks to Tyler McVicker, a YouTube channel dedicated to all news related to Valve, a slew of fan emails were sent in to hint at the future of Half-Life 3. Corresponding with fans, the Valve co-founder revealed that a sequel is inbound within the next five years. It might be quite the ways away for some, but there’s no doubt it will be worth the wait. Game years flash by at a different rate anyway…right? Need proof from Newell? See for yourself below:
There’s even a sly little winky-face for added playfulness. Further details on the progress of Half-Life 3 is non-existent, but what we do know is this – it IS happening. The last iteration to hit the industry was Half-Life 2: Episode 2, which released nearly 12 years ago in 2007. So, does this mean that a sequel is currently in the works? We can’t say for sure, but Newell did reveal in previous fan correspondences that an unannounced Valve title was under development.
There’s the likely chance that the upcoming title isn’t the next entry in the franchise, and could very well be a remake with modern visual effects and technology. Would that be so bad though? One can only speculate a few possibilities and Half-Life 3 is certainly one of them! Even Tesla co-founder and CEO, Elon Musk, seemed enthusiastic about the prospects! In the meantime, mods like the phenomenal Half-Life 2: MMod will have to do.
What do you think about Gabe Newell’s teaser? Do you think it will be toward the tail-end of 5 years or is he giving a ballpark number so fans don’t get too excited?
