Grand Theft Auto 6 Reportedly Set In Vice City, Still “Years Away”
As the new generation of video game consoles solidify their footholds in the industry, the potential promise of returns from classic gaming franchises has gamers eagerly awaiting their announcement. One elusive game that players have wanted to here an announcement for has been Grand Theft Auto 6. The hypothetical sequel to the highly praised Grand Theft Auto V has been rumored to be in the works for a while now, with many of the rumors pointing towards the series returning to the Vice City setting from the PlayStation 2 days. Now, new intel about GTA 6 seems to confirm this, though the game is still a while from being finished.

As reported by VGC, game industry insider Tom Henderson has been providing updates about the development of Grand Theft Auto 6 for over a year now. Among the updates given before a year ago was an update saying that GTA 6 was set to be released in 2023. However, a new video released by Henderson now claims that the game is set to be released in 2024-2025. These new claims are backed up by known journalist Jason Schreier, who cites Rockstar’s now majority remote-working employee base due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a cause for the development difficulties.
Henderson’s report also suggests that Grand Theft Auto 6 will utilize Vice City as its setting, a location that has been requested by fans to make a return for nearly two decades. The big interesting thing Henderson points out is that the new version of Vice City would be expected to have changes to its map and environment made for years post-launch for the game. This would help support that game’s Grand Theft Auto Online ongoing structure, as well as allow it to compete with consistently updated game maps like Fortnite’s. Whatever becomes of this map, it will still take a while before it arrives. But when it does, what a Vice it will be.
