God Of War Director Explains Why There's No DLC

Late last year God of War won the highly coveted Game of the Year award, and for good reason; the title was a return to form for the series, one that reinvigorated a ‘finished’ franchise and provided an emotional payoff that was over a decade in the making. So, with Sony’s Santa Monica Studios releasing such an impressive title for the PlayStation 4, why isn’t there any DLC? Well, apparently there were plans to release some, but it was all too ambitious.

The news comes by way of God of War game director Cory Barlog, who revealed the ‘why’ behind the lack of DLC in the game in a recent interview on the GameOverGreggy Show at Kinda Funny Games. When asked about the lack of DLC, Barlog responded that “It would end up being its own thing.”

Rightfully so, everybody had said to me, ‘Dude, this is crazy. This isn’t DLC, it’s a little too big.'”

So, apparently there were plans to implement DLC into God of War after the title’s release, which is a typical staple of Sony games, though the sheer scope of what Barlog planned had people saying that it was too much. Now, what does that mean for the future? Given the game’s success, it wouldn’t be a surprise to hear that a sequel to God of War was in the works, though Barlog himself admitted that he’s taking a little time to unwind now that the work is pretty much wrapped up. That said, there’s always the future, and depending on what the sequel entails we may get to see what he had planned for the original game in terms of DLC.

For now, we can only wait and theorize on what Barlog may have had planned. Perhaps a visit to another realm? Maybe discovering a way to help the Valkyries once more? God of War is now available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.

So, thoughts on the lack of DLC within the game? Do you understand Barlog’s reasoning? Let us know in the comments section below, and as always, stay tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers for all the latest gaming and entertainment news! Don’t forget to follow DFTG on Twitter for our 24/7 news feed!
