Gears of War Creator Says He’s Done Making Games For Good
The gaming industry, while not as frequently public with its most influential figures like the film, television and music industries, still has plenty of recognizable faces among its ranks. In recent years, one of the most well-known creative leads in gaming has been one Cliff Blezinski. CliffyB, as he has often been affectionately referred to as, has been the key creative force behind such popular franchises as the Unreal Tournament and Gears of War series. Many believed Cliff to be a permanent staple in the gaming industry, but alas it may no longer be the case. It appears that the Gears of War creator has announced his retirement from the game industry.

Blezinski recently sent out a detailed message to his followers of his official Twitter account, in response to a disgruntled fan. This message echoed the complaints of other players of Blezinski’s latest project, Lawbreakers, which unfortunately had its online-focused gameplay shut down barely a year after its launch due to a lack of success for the game. Coupling this failure and the meager success for Radical Heights ultimately led Blezinski’s new studio Boss Key Productions to shut down. It seems that this experience ultimately proved to weaken Blezinski’s resolve to remain active in game development, with his apparent announcement of his retirement from the industry with the tweet above.
Some believed CliffyB to only be taking a break from games based on this tweet, but other reports have shared that Blezinski has confirmed his intent to never make another game ever again. However, Bleszinski still has other projects in the works, such as a book he recently shared a preview of. Still, for such an important figure in the industry, this comes as quite a loss for the gaming landscape at large, let alone his fans. We here at Don’t Feed the Gamers do wish Blezinski the best in whatever endeavors he pursues next. Hopefully these ones don’t get cut in half by a lancer.
