Gears Of War Studio Focusing On Next-Gen Projects Using Unreal Engine 5

Gears 5 Gears of War

With the new generation of video game consoles still in its infancy, it will be quite some time before fans are fully thrust into everything next-gen has to offer. Speaking of which, the developers behind Gears of War have recently stated that they are all in on next-gen goodness and will begin working on multiple projects in Unreal Engine 5.

Taking to the Gears 5 website, The Coalition let fans know that they are moving to Unreal Engine 5 and will begin working on new next-gen projects. “As we look to future games, we’re excited to start shifting our resources to next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5,” says the developers. “Gears of War has always been at the front of Unreal Engine development – as a breakout 720p title for Xbox 360 through last year’s 120FPS multiplayer update for Xbox Series X|S – and we’re excited to continue that tradition by developing on UE5 for multiple new projects in the coming years.”

As for Gears 5, there is still more content on the way with Operations 7 and 8, each of which will include new characters, maps, and more. “Through the end of the year, we will have store updates with exciting new content as well as featured playlists,” the devs said.

Of course, all of this information means a couple different things. Since they are moving to a new engine and will be developing games for next-gen hardware, it will be quite some time before we see anything announced. In addition to this, a new Gears of War title is probably not going to even be hinted at anytime soon. When it does get revealed, however, that is going to be one beautiful game.
