RUMOR: Three New Gears of Wars Titles Are Debuting at E3 2018, One Battle Royale
We already knew that Gears of War 5 was a likely announcement at E3 2018 due to numerous leaks and commentary from Xboss Phil Spencer himself. What we didn’t know, however, is that apparently there won’t be one new Gears game, but three. At least according to recent reports.
The most recent source to back up this claim is Polygon and they claim that we’ll be getting one standard Gears of War title, but the remaining two will be variations of the long-standing franchise. One is reported to be done in a Halo Wars style as a real-time strategy spin-off, with the third (predictably) focusing on battle royale.
With the focus of growing the Xbox Play Anywhere program, it would be a great time to capitalize on the franchise with the recent accessibility on PC through Windows 10. The media site didn’t name their sources, however, so it’s important to take this latest rumor with a notable grain of salt. With E3 less than a week away, all of these leaks, rumors, and speculatory chaos will finally be resolved one way or another.
With Gears of War 4 taking a very different turn both in character design and in narrative, I’m personally excited to see what the next installment will have to offer. As a hardcore fan of the Gears of War series, the characters they’ve created are heartfelt and come with a pretty hefty backstory. That being said, not quite sure how I feel about Gears being the latest to fall victim to the battle royale craze but as with any “new” announcement, I’ll reserve that judgement until I can play it for myself.
What about you? What do you think about the revelation that we might be seeing three new Gears of War games? Would you be interested in playing a Gear-themed battle royale title?
