Fortnite: Epic Games Pledges $100,000,000 For Competitive Prize Pools

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Epic Games’ Fortnite has taken the gaming world by storm. The free-to-play Battle Royale mode has more than proven that it’s no copy cat, and everyone – including celebrities we didn’t even know gamed – are getting in on the fun. The team behind the title have been teasing competitive play for a little bit now, and have also mentioned an interest in growing the eSports scene. Well, it looks like it’s about to kick off in a big way because the developers just pledged a whopping ONE MILLION for the prize pool!

Grab your gear, drop in and start training. Since the launch of Fortnite Battle Royale we’ve watched the passion for community competition grow and can’t wait to empower you to battle with the best.”

“In the 2018 – 2019 season, Epic Games will provide $100,000,000 to fund prize pools for Fortnite competitions. We’re getting behind competitive play in a big way, but our approach will be different – we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game,” boasted the team. We don’t know exactly when this will all go into effect but with Epic Games having such a huge presence coming up at this year’s E3, it’s more than likely that we’ll learn more there.

It’s insane to think how far this game has come. When the title first launched with nothing but the Save the World mode, it was met with “meh” reactions from gamers all over. When they dared to tip their toes into the Battle Royale niche in a time where PUBG reigned supreme, the world took notice – and they mocked. But know it’s the game developers’ turn to laugh as Fortnite continues to obliterate both player and sales records. With a constant flow of events, an incredible laid-back energy, and a loyal fan-base – we just don’t see this game fading into obscurity anytime soon.
