Here’s the First Image to Emerge from Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One

Ernest Cline’s 2011 hit book Ready Player One is something that should probably be read by anyone with an affinity for 80’s pop culture, puzzles, trivia, or really any nerdy aspect of anything ever. That might contain a bit of hyperbole, but it does hold truth. Cline was able to blend all of these aspects together, introduce a ragtag cast of characters, and put it all into one hell of a story. For those who have not read it, the time to do so before Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation arrives is dwindling. Speaking of which, the first image from the Ready Player One movie has arrived, and it is quite possibly just as glorious as one could hope.

Thanks to an exclusive from Entertainment Weekly, fans can now catch a glimpse of Wade Watts(Tye Sheridan) in his hideout in the Stacks. In the image that was released, we see Watts donning the VR headset and haptic gloves that transports him to the OASIS, the online virtual utopia where most go to in order to escape the reality of a grim 2044. It is in this realm that Wade a.k.a. Parzival has friends he can count on and enemies gunning for him as he becomes the first to obtain a spot on the coveted Scoreboard. We’re not here to spoil anything for you, though, so go ahead and enjoy the image below:

Ready Player One

The Ready Player One film’s first photo is littered with Easter eggs, nostalgia, and clues as to what kind of movie fans will be getting under the direction of Steven Spielberg. A He-Man lunch box along with Garbage Pail Kids and Garfield stickers are all present. So are the egg cartons on the walls and the stationary bike that charges the car batteries to keep Wade’s OASIS gear powered up. Of course, Steven’s ability to bring this project to life probably shouldn’t be questioned seeing as his work from the 80’s had a lot of inspiration on Cline while writing the book. Plus, it’s Steven Spielberg… enough said. That isn’t biased at all. Nope. Not one bit.

Ready Player One is currently expected to hit theaters on March 30, 2018. It stars Tye Sheridan(Wade Watts/Parzival), Olivia Cooke(Samantha Cook/Art3mis), T.J. Miller(i-R0k), Mark Rylance(James Halliday), and Ben Mendelsohn(Nolan Sorrento). Simon Pegg has been pinned to play Ogden Morrow, but no official word has been released. As for Aech, we won’t mention the person cast as the character because that is intrinsically a spoiler. Read the book to find out more, or wait for the movie.
