Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto Trailer – Release Date + Third-Person Gameplay (VIDEO)
Episode Prompto, the latest story-driven DLC for Final Fantasy XV, is arriving on June 27 for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, according to Japanese developer and publisher Square Enix. The second of three episodic stories featuring Noctis’ companions, Episode Prompto focuses on the Prince’s best friend (and designated photographer) as he “fights to discover the truth behind his origins and to take control of his own fate,” according to Square Enix.
Become the cheerful gunslinger himself and experience a brand new storyline, wrapped in thrilling Third Person Shooter gameplay. Separated from the group in a harsh arctic environment, Prompto heads off to the place of his birth to uncover the truth of his mysterious origins…”
In a newly released trailer for the DLC, Square Enix reveals a gameplay departure from the main storyline within Final Fantasy XV, featuring third-person shooting and a heavier emphasis on stealth. In fact, given the stark, cold setting of the compound where part of the DLC takes place, some folks have already begun referring to Episode Prompto as ‘Metal Gear Prompto’. Check out the new gameplay trailer below to see just how well the new nickname fits:
As seen in the video, Prompto has access to a variety of new weapons including rifles, rocket launchers, handguns, and a sword. The trailer also reveals an exciting motorcycle scene, as well as Prompto taking an obligatory selfie with a Bandersnatch. Yet another surprise from the new gameplay trailer is Aranea Highwind, the Dragoon enemy-turned-ally from the main storyline. Though it is currently unknown how big of a part she plays in the DLC, her conversations with Prompto seem to confirm that the episode takes place after Prompto disappears from the party, and before chapter 13. Those looking to fill in the gaps of the story will only have to wait one more week before Episode Prompto’s release on June 27, which also signals the arrival of the Regalia Type-D – an off-road version of Noctis’ vehicle from the main story.
